Most stones come out without opening anything
A stone is imaged, sized and located before anything is planned. Depending on where it sits, it comes out through the ureteroscope, through a keyhole in the flank, or is broken up from outside — open surgery is the last option, not the first.
The other half of the department is the prostate and continence clinic, where an enlarged prostate is measured rather than guessed at, and treated with drugs first where drugs will do.
